This policy provides guidance and direction to all staff at Skin & Mole Clinic which will enable our organisation to meet our obligations and responsibilities under the Treaty of Waitangi. ‘
The Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti O Waitangi) was signed in 1840 by Tribal Nations of Aotearoa in partnership with the crown.
Signatories agreed to four provisions:
The Skin & Mole Clinic is not an agency of the Crown but acknowledges the importance of the spirit of the Treaty of Waitangi in the delivery of its services to Maori. The four concepts to be aware of in the formulation of policies governing delivery of healthcare services include – empowerment, active involvement, cultural and spiritual safety.
To be aware of customs, protocols, beliefs and values to ensure the elimination of risk of inappropriate practises which could cause offence. Consultation and input from Tangata whenua through liaison with and advice from local Iwi as required.
